Austin, Texas, December 5, 2005 – Alereon, a leading fabless semiconductor company developing wireless solutions for the WiMedia Ultrawideband (UWB) and Certified Wireless USB (W-USB) markets, announced today that the company has been selected as a recipient of IT Week's first annual Excellence Awards for 2005. The newly created award is given out to companies whose products IT Week's editors feel demonstrate quality and excellence in their respective fields.
Ken Durham, editor of IT Week magazine, stressed that it was very hard to pick but a few winners with so many great products out there, but "in the end it boiled down to the products which went above and beyond the call of duty sort of speak. We at IT Week are very happy for the opportunity to be able to recognize these products for their technological prowess and true excellence."
IT Week magazine acknowledges that there's not a single formula to excellence and as such the winners produce a wide range of products, ranging from email and browser security to portable hard drives. The winners will appear in December 5th issue of IT Week magazine, in the order in which they've been reviewed in the previous year, as opposed to by any ranking.
Earlier this year, Alereon was the first to demonstrate a 480Mbps silicon solution for UWB and wireless USB applications. Alereon also introduced two chip sets, the AL4000 PHY chipset and the AL4300, a combined W-USB Media Access Controller (MAC) and BaseBand Processor (BBP). The AL4000 PHY chipset consists of the AL4100 Analog Front End (AFE), and the AL4200 BBP. The AL4300, when combined with the AL4100 AFE makes a complete two chip W-USB solution for portable products, PC peripherals and consumer electronics products.
"All of us at Alereon are honored to receive this award," said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "This is a reflection of all of the hard work everyone in our organization has put in to help us create a chipset that will help shape the future of wireless technology. We thank IT Week for recognizing this technological breakthrough."
